During phase one, we conducted eleven focus groups and additional cognitive interviews in urban, suburban, and rural Illinois with Black males.
Focus group participation involved being part of a group discussion with seven to ten other English speaking, Black men between 18 and 24 years old.
KEY INFORMANT MEETING
Key informant meetings involved being part of a group discussion with approximately seven to nine other Black women age 18 or older who had a significant relationship with a young man 18 to 14 who could meet the study eligibility requirements.
All interviews occurred in-person in a pre-arranged location to answer questions during a one-on-one meeting with a Black male interviewer.
